Lohagad Fort is located in the Pune district, about 52 kilometers northwest of Pune. Lohagad Fort was a key fortification in the Maratha Empire and was used to store the treasury by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The fort's strategic location made it a crucial defensive position in the region. It has a rich history of battles and has witnessed numerous historical events.
Architectural Features
Lohagad Fort is renowned for its four massive gates—Ganesh Darwaja, Narayan Darwaja, Hanuman Darwaja, and Maha Darwaja. The fort’s most striking feature is the Vinchu Kata (Scorpion’s Tail), a long and narrow fortified spur that resembles a scorpion’s tail. The fort also has several ancient caves, water tanks, and an old dargah.

Lohagad Fort is easily accessible from the base village of Lohagadwadi. The trek to the fort is relatively easy and popular among beginners. During the monsoon season, the fort is surrounded by lush greenery, making it a picturesque destination.

Lohagad Fort is open to visitors from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The best time to visit is during the monsoon season (June to September), when the fort is at its most beautiful, or during the winter months for a pleasant trekking experience.
