Historical Significance
- Built in 1656 under the orders of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
- Site of the famous Battle of Pratapgad in 1659, where Shivaji defeated Afzal Khan of the Bijapur Sultanate.
- Played a key role in strengthening Shivaji’s empire and safeguarding the Maratha territories.
- Houses the memorial (tomb) of Afzal Khan, marking the historic confrontation.
